Cleaning
As your motties age, you may wish to give them a clean. To help avoid damaging them, please read through the following guidelines.
Surface dirt/marks on the leather
Use a commercial leather cleaner, or make your own by mixing 2 tbsp vinegar with 1 tbsp olive oil (you can add a few drops of an essential oil if you want to change the smell, but the odour of vinegar won't last long). Add a small quantity of the cleaner to a soft cloth and apply to the leather. Wipe off and repeat as necessary.
NB this method cannot be used on suede parts.
Dust and Fluff
If you have had your motties for a while, dust and fluff may build up inside. The best way to remove this is with your vacuum cleaner, and the crevice attachment nozzle is useful for getting in behind the seam. For a really thorough clean, carefully turn your slippers inside-out and run the vacuum over the seam a few times, getting behind each layer of material.
Stains/marks on the inner sole
Carefully turn your motties inside-out and sponge the inner sole using a damp sponge dipped in washing power/laundry detergent. It is important not to use too much water as this could damage the leather parts. Work the soap into the inner sole, rinse the sponge and wring it out, then remove as much soap as possible from the slipper. Repeat as necessary and allow to dry completely before turning the right way round again.
